Making the Best Use of Space... Urban Survival Thinking

This going to be an interesting article for everyone because I am going to discuss how to maximize your survival & resources with limited space.

The Above Image shows a layout for a 1-bedroom Efficiency Apartment. The concepts here can be applied to a larger space allowing one to grow more food and doing so using a Hydroponics Set Up. This allows one to grow food indoors and away from the public's eye. If people don't know you can feed yourself, they won't come begging when the supply lines go down. The Image has a lot of information that you can use and apply... Having extra food is fine but, being able to resupply yourself is the key and thats where the hydroponics comes in.

This is a professional Store Bought Hydroponics Set-up... You can make your own out of PVC Pipe, Window Screen, Potting Soil, a Hacksaw & Cordless Drill for a fraction of what the Hydroponics from the store will cost you & you can get a Hacksaw and Cordless drill left over as a bonus. Look if a High School Drop Out and Petty Criminal can do this with growing pot in the City why can't you do it feed yourself and your family?

Likewise, it also allows you to use the space outside your apartment and it is going to be much easier to organize those around you, on your floor or in your building after an event when the breakdown in law and order occur. I recommend having a Bug-Out Bag and all that (in case you have to leave) but, staying put is probably a safer bet... Once the breakdown occurs you need to pretend to have "ideas" and not to have pre-planned anything.

Now the above image covers ways and places you need to secure your apartment's hallways and exits. This includes having Sentries or Guards posted to keep a lookout for trouble. I Suggest someone on the Stair Wells inside the Building, Someone on the First Floor & the Someone on the Roof. This allows for overhead observation to the greatest possible distance & someone on the ground floor to watch the entrances to the building. Lastly we will discuss how to use your building to as a whole unit...

A. Is your look out, you can construct a rooftop garden here and of course, you can/must place guards/sentries on the ground floor. Someone here with binoculars or a working drone with a camera can provide long range observation to
B. Entrances can be secured, as well as windows. Now building basements with ground level windows can be used to secure fighting positions. At least one (the main) entrance into one's building with a three guards or more correctly, two guards and a runner.

Walkie Talkies or Runners, a simple pulley system from a clothesline can relay information between the Roof and Ground Floor Teams. Provided a channel exists along the floors of the stairwell. By another extreme, if the Building can be used to agree... A "lobby scout" or an individual to hang out down stairs can used to provide a warning to the one's on the higher floors. So that members on the higher floors as the Urban Prepper can, throw up hasty defenses they have prepared in advance and arm up to defend their position. Roof top scouts can be on the look out for threats at a distance.

Now you have to understand that a post SHTF environment is going to in all likelihood be filled with people trying to survive, take advantage of the situation or, otherwise get ahead in a Without Rule of Law Environment. So threats can be Jackbooted Thugs, Gangs, or Paid Protesters. So you have a higher likelihood of being a victim of criminal violence.
